Communiqué Issued at the end of the 127th Meeting of the Joint Tax Board held on 18th April, 2013, at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja

The Joint Tax Board held its 127th Meeting on 18th April, 2013, at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.  The Board deliberated on various issues and reached the following major decisions:

 

1.   The Board considered incidences of multiplicity of Taxes and levies across the country and resolved to harmonize collectible taxes and levies by all the tiers of Government through a proposal to the National Assembly for the amendment of the existing tax laws.

 

2.   Tax Authorities in conjunction with relevant stakeholders are to develop presumptive tax regulations for administering taxation of the informal sector of the economy.

 

3.   The Board is to intensify efforts towards achieving total deployment of the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) infrastructures at the various tax offices across the country to ensure full implementation of the project.

 

4.   The Board is concerned that some State Governments have not enacted laws establishing their Boards of Internal Revenue (granting Autonomy) and encouraged them to do so.

 

5.   The Board resolved to hold its 3rd International Tax Conference from 20th – 22nd October, 2013 with the Theme “Taxation and Development:  A key to National Transformation”.
