The Joint Tax Board, in an effort to address incessant complaints about the indiscriminate rates of Road Taxes administered across the country and the challenges associated with the procurement of Vehicle Number Plates (VNP) and/or issuance of the National Driver’s License (NDL), has held a meeting with key stakeholders with a view to fashioning out ways to check the ugly trend.
The meeting, which was held at the Board Secretariat in Asokoro, Abuja, had in attendance the Secretary of the Joint Tax Board(JTB), the representatives of the Corp Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), representative of the Federal Capacity Territory Administration (FCTA), and some Chairmen of the State Boards of Internal Revenue Service.
The meeting noted with dismay the challenges faced by motorists in procuring Vehicle  Number Plates and Drivers’ License, a situation which has not only ridiculed the system but has, as well exposed it to manipulations by touts.
The indiscriminate rates of Road Taxes administered by various tax authorities were also a cause for concern and the need for harmonization and enlightenment was emphasized.
To this end, the meeting approved that the various approved fees for Road Taxes and the processes involved in obtaining the items be re-published to further educate and enlighten the public as well as instill confidence in the system.
The rates and processes were thereafter publicized in some Nigerian dailies, and the motorists and applicants can visit the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Joint Tax Board (JTB) Websites as well as the various one-stop shops of the State Boards of Internal Revenue Service for guidance.
