The 2023 Joint Tax Board Preliminary Inspectors of Taxes Course (PITC) was commenced on Monday, July 24, 2023 with participants drawn from the 36 States’ and FCT Internal Revenue Service as well as other government agencies that are involved in tax administration in Nigeria.
The PITC is specially designed to build professional capacity among tax personnel of the sub-national revenue authorities as well as other member agencies of the Joint Tax Board. PITC is strategically structured for middle-management emerging tax officers towards improved productivity, work efficiency, and effectiveness in their respective job schedules.
While declaring the Course open at the Federal Inland Revenue Service Training School located in the Durumi District, Abuja, the JTB Secretary, Madam Obomeghie Nana-Aisha, warmly welcomed the tax officers to the 10-week capacity building course and charged them to see the training as a golden opportunity for enhancement of their knowledge and performances towards effective and efficient service delivery and productivity.
The Secretary stressed that the dynamics of taxation and the disruptions that technology has elicited globally have made it imperative that tax administrators are adequately trained in tandem with the changes and emerging trends in domestic and international taxation.
She added that the JTB Preliminary Inspector of Taxes Course is one of the fundamental means for fulfilling the eminent need for equipping our revenue officers nationwide with knowledge on the multiple facets of tax administration, and a platform to introduce to participants to new and better ways of managing the revenue generating processes and procedures required for optimising IGR within their respective jurisdictions.
Madam Obomeghie assured the trainees that the Joint Tax Board had taken all necessary steps to make their study as comfortable and conducive as possible and wished them a fruitful and productive time during their scholarly journey.
She urged the participants of the Course to be focused and dedicated, and to maintain their individual integrity, and that of the agencies that they represent, emphasising that only serious and committed participants will reap the benefits of the Course.
The Preliminary Inspector of Taxes Course is a regular training programme through which the Joint Tax Board, the umbrella body in tax administration in Nigeria, has been optimising its capacity building mandate for tax professionals for several decades.
