Olusegun Philip Adesokan was born on April 3, 1973 and prior to his appointment as the Secretary, Joint Tax Board (JTB), he was a managing partner who coordinates the practice teams of Adesokan & Adesokan, a full-service professional firm offering a whole spectrum of personal, corporate, commercial, and international legal services to a motley clientele base including multinational corporations, reputable local entities, high net worth individuals and government agencies and departments. In addition, Mr Olusegun heads the Telecommunication, Estate & Trust, Banking & Finance, Intellectual Property and Corporate & Commercial practices of the astute A&A Firm.

Olusegun Adesokan is from Oyo State, Nigeria. He is a visionary and a reputable Lawyer with high integrity and stern commitment to upholding the highest standards of legal professional ethics. He bagged his Bachelors of Law Degree (LL.B Hons) in 1994 from the premier University of Ibadan, Oyo State and his BL from the Nigerian Law School in 1995.

He is a member of several renowned professional bodies including the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the Association Of Young Lawyers International (AIJA), the Insolvency Practitioners International (INSOL), Business Recovery & Insolvency Practitioners Association Of Nigeria (BRIPAN), International Trademark Association (INTA) and a member of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) registered Capital Market Solicitor, amongst others.

During his practice, Segun has provided specialized advice to Clients in corporate and structured finance, taxation, intellectual property rights protection, commercial transactions, real estate acquisition & disposition, business start-up and reorganization, distribution transactions, employment, immigration, energy, investment, site acquisition for telecommunication towers, loans securitization, insolvency, compliance & governance issues, and other transactional mandates. His grasp of business dynamics helps in anticipating the twists and turns of a diverse range of corporate and commercial matters complemented by his strong negotiating skills which he successfully applies to deliver on his clients’ mandates.

Sequel to his vast knowledge of taxation both locally and internationally, he provided Tax Advisory Services to the Country’ leading Dairy Retailer quoted on the Stock Exchange in areas of tax review and compliance status covering Corporate Income Tax, Withholding Tax, Valued Added Tax, Personal Income Tax and Social Security Contributions, Stamp Duty, Transfer Pricing as well as Tax Auditing. Also, he is involved in the draft Bill for Oyo State Joint Local Government Law being considered by the Oyo State House of Assembly currently.

Also, Mr Olusegun, a versatile Tax Consultant and Transaction Solicitor has provided tax advisory roles to offshore companies and their subsidiaries on areas of fresh and existing Double Taxation Agreements/Treaties between Nigeria and other countries, the implications of the introduction of corporate tax on Non-Resident Companies with significant economic presence in Nigeria, and Company holding 100% ownership of a Nigerian Online Marketplace as well as the execution of company acquisition or merger agreements on the legal and fiscal aspects as against tax and legal risks that are associated.

Furthermore, Mr Segun had acted for several conglomerates including the world’s largest energy beverage producer in securing regulatory approvals and permits to market and distribute its brands in Nigeria. He also offered services to the Company including another leading Tobacco Manufacturing Company on the protection and the enforcement of the intellectual property rights to their products against counterfeiters and infringers of trademarks and design rights.

He is a proficient legal luminary and a litigant who continues to represent Banks, Private Equity Firms, Real Estate Investors, Energy Companies, Manufacturing Companies, Telecommunication Companies, Distribution and Marketing Entities, Construction Companies and Individuals on a wide range of issues (transactional and dispute resolution) requiring legal content. Recently, he facilitated regulatory protection and enforcement of brand rights industry wide of edible oil producers. He has successfully handled high profile debt collection and insolvency matters for financial and non-financial institutions.
