COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 148TH MEETING OF THE JOINT TAX BOARD HELD ON 9TH SEPTEMBER 2021 AT TRANSCORP HILTON HOTEL, ABUJA

The Theme of the meeting was “Achieving Effective and Efficient Administration of Stamp Duties and Other Related Taxes for Enhanced Revenue Generation in Nigeria.”

The Board deliberated on various issues and adopted the following resolutions:

  1. The tax regime in the country should develop in line with contemporary global trends and practices especially regarding the administration of Stamp Duties and other related taxes.
  2. Given the reality of technology, and it’s significance under the contemporary global business environment, it is imperative to explore emerging areas of taxation for enhanced revenue growth.                                                                            –
  3. Extensive scrutiny on possible implications of adjustments to existing Tax Laws be undertaken, while urging that critical stakeholders explore further  engagements towards achieving a sustainable and inclusive tax environment in the country.
  4. State revenue authorities to explore ways of partnering with the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) towards safeguarding the health of Nigerians, and the sustainability of the environment.
  5. The Joint Tax Board frowns at the duplication of road tax collections on motorists and other road users across different tax jurisdictions, and strongly condemns the activities of entities involved in such practices.
  6. Continuous collaboration among revenue authorities and other relevant stakeholders is encouraged to ensure that all eligible taxpayers are brought into the tax net under the Data for Tax initiative.
