COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 152 MEETING OF THE RD JOINT TAX BOARD (JTB) HELD ON 23 MARCH 2023 VIA ZOOM

The theme of the meeting was:
“Automation and harmonization of road and
presumptive taxes in line with global initiatives on tax
administration for the future.

The Board deliberated on various issues and adopted the following resolutions:

1. Revenue authorities to adopt automated processes and leverage
technology and data in order to fully harness the opportunities in tax
administration for the future.

2. To harmonise road tax administration nationwide as a pre-requisite for
optimising revenues derivable from the road transport sector of the
nation’s economy.

3. To harmonise the Presumptive tax remains the most effective framework
for achieving enhanced tax compliance of the informal sector, while
embracing technology to enhance the efficiency of its administration.

4. That the Single Inter-State Road Tax Sticker (SIRTS) and Single Haulage
Fee (SHF) is a laudable initiative that holds great potential for shoring up
revenue for the nation.

5. To ensure that revenues from Local Governments are reported as part of
the State Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to achieve accuracy in the
computing of the country Tax to GDP ratio.
